POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University men's rowing team continued its spring season by competing at the President's Cup on the Hudson River, sending the varsity 8 and the second varsity 8 onto the water.
The varsity 8 picked up a fourth place finish by finishing the course with a time of 5:39.56 behind the efforts of
Mike Clarkson,
Matthew Sutter, Williams Quentin,
John O'Neill,
James Mulhall,
John Imor,
Casey Fuller,
Lars Erickson, and coxswain
Matt Marshall. Marist won the event with a time of 5:17.56, followed by Army (5:26.26) and Rutgers (5:30.41).
The second varsity also took fourth place in its race against the same three crews, making its run in 4:12.90. Marist took first place with a time of 3:54.38 while Army (4:00.02) secured second place and Rutgers (4:05.03) grabbed third place. Fairfield's entry included

The junior varsity 8 race was stopped due to boat traffic on the river while the varsity 4 did not start due to rough water.
"We knew going in that the competition would be tough," Head Coach
Charles Huthmaker said. "We closed the gap from last year's race but not enough. We took some lumps and will get back to work this week and get ready for the Kerr Cup in Philly and our Lightweight race against MIT next weekend."
