FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse continues CAA action at Hofstra on Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but has been moved due to expected weather and concern for travel conditions.
Fairfield's Last Time Out
A goal with just 3:12 remaining was the difference as Fairfield was on the short side of an 11-10 final in its CAA opener last Saturday at Delaware. Joe Rodrigues led the Stags with a hat trick and an assist.
The outing marked the second straight one-goal loss on the road for the Stags. The prior Saturday, Fairfield fell in overtime, 13-12, to then-#7/8 nationally-ranked Villanova
Travis Ford followed up a four-goal performance last weekend against the Wildcats with two markers against Delaware.
Fairfield also got goals from Drew Murray, Jack Brennan, Colin Burke, Dylan Beckwith and Kendall Keahey. Murray and Brennan also each handed out one assist.
On the other side of the field, Max McGuire made nine saves in his second career start in the Fairfield cage. Andrew Murrow returned to action and led the defense with two ground balls and a caused turnover, and Jake Tymon snatched up four ground balls from the LSM spot.
Delaware was led by four goals, including the game-winner, from Charlie Kitchen. Dean DiSimone also had a four-point performance with two goals and two assists. Matt DeLuca made 10 saves to earn the win in the cage.
Scouting Hofstra
After a decisive 9-3 win over Towson in their CAA opener last Saturday, the Hofstra Pride enter the weekend with a record of 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Pride are 3-2 at home with their losses coming at the hands of Villanova (unranked at the time but currently #7 in the nation) and #12 Lehigh.
Hofstra is the nation's top-ranked defense ceding just 7.00 goals per game. Lehigh is the only team to have reached double figures against the Pride through nine outings this spring. The unit is anchored by All-America goalkeeper Jack Concannon, who boasts a .572 save percentage and 6.92 goals-against average.
On the attack, Ryan Tierney leads the way with 38 total points. He leads the Pride with 20 assists and his 18 goals share the team-best by Dylan McIntosh. Jimmy Yanes adds 15 goals and eight helpers.
Kyle Gallagher heads the effort on the draw, posting a .564 win percentage (88-for-156) with 61 ground balls.
All-Time Series vs. Hofstra (Hofstra leads 5-4)
Last spring's win for the #6 Pride at Rafferty Stadium staked Hofstra to a 5-4 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 2002. The Stags are 2-1 over Hofstra in CAA play in addition to an 11-8 win for Fairfield in the 2016 CAA Championship Semifinals.
In five of the nine prior meetings in the series, neither team has reached double-digit goals, and none of the nine previous encounters have seen both teams hit the 10-goal mark.
The all-time slate also includes the second longest game in Fairfield history - a 10-9 triple overtime victory on February 28, 2012 that clocked in at 69:53 when Brent Adams' game-winner hit the back of the cage.
