Pivotal Saturday Showdown Sends Stags to Canisius

Opening draw set for 11 a.m. on ESPN+

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After clinching a berth in the 2018 MAAC Championship with Wednesday's 12-9 victory at Iona, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse will be jockeying for postseason positioning this Saturday with a trip to Canisius. Opening draw with the Griffs is set for 11 a.m. with all of action broadcast live on ESPN+.

After Wednesday's win, Fairfield stands at 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC. The Stags control their own destiny to finish as high as the #4 seed in the upcoming postseason but are still in contention for top seed and the MAAC Regular Season Championship, pending results around the conference in the coming week.

The Stags most recent outing was highlighted by a one-goal, four-assist showing from Brenna Connolly. With her effort against the Gaels, Connolly set a new Fairfield single-season record with her 28th assist of the campaign. The senior is four helpers shy of matching Kristen Coleman's career record of 71 assists established during her record-breaking Stags' career from 2008-10.

On the season, Connolly leads the MAAC with an average of 2.00 assists per game, while her 3.86 points per outing rate fourth in the conference. With 54 total points, Connolly is four shy of entering the top-10 on Fairfield's single-season chart.

Canisius (8-7, 5-1 MAAC), is buoyed offensively by Jourdan Roemer, who leads the MAAC with 67 total points and 4.47 points per game. Jen Reininger adds 48 points for the Griffs. Rebecca VanLaeken protects the cage to the tune of a MAAC-leading 11.87 saves per game and leads the nation in total saves with 178. She owns an even .500 save percentage and a 12.07 goals-against average.

After this weekend's trip to Buffalo, the Stags wrap-up a three-game road swing and close out the MAAC regular season with a trip to Manhattan on Wednesday, April 25. Opening draw in Riverdale, N.Y. is set for 6 p.m.
