OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse faceoff specialist
Will Fox has been recognized as
one of 20 candidates nationwide for the Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for
Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Fox is a Fairfield University Dean's List and CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll student as a Psychology major. He is also one of Fairfield's representatives on the MAAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, helping to spearhead service initiatives for the conference. Over the past two seasons, Fox has been a part of the men's lacrosse team's Lax Stache Madness effort that has raised more than $23,000 for the HEADstrong Foundation.
On the field, Fox currently ranks among the top faceoff men in the nation. His .632 win percentage on the draw is 13th in the country, while his average of 9.25 ground balls per game slots him at fifth in all of Division I. Fox's 17-for-21 (.810) performance in the Feb. 17 win at Saint Joseph's was the best by a Stag in five seasons and rates as the fifth-best single game outing in the nation this spring (minimum 20 attempts). His 14 ground balls in the victory over the Hawks tied the Fairfield single-game record established by Stags and Major League Lacrosse faceoff standard bearer Peter Vlahakis '04.
For his career, Fox ranks second behind Vlahakis with a .567 win percentage as the Stags have come away with 409 of his 721 faceoff attempts to date. He is also third all-time at Fairfield with 179 career ground balls. Fox is a two-time All-CAA honoree and was named the 2015 CAA Rookie of the Year.
"As a student, a player, a teammate and a person, Will is an outstanding representative of our program and Fairfield University," said Head Coach
Andy Copelan. "His dedication to excellence in all aspects of his collegiate experience is second to none."
Fox and the Stags are currently in the midst of a six-game homestand on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium continuing this Saturday, March 3 with a 1 p.m. visit from Stony Brook. Tickets are on sale now at
