Softball Splits On Final Day Of Campbell Stampede

| Box Score 2 Buies Creek, N.C. --- On the final day of the Campbell Stampede, the Fairfield University softball team split a pair of games, falling to Georgia Tech in the opener but coming back with a shutout against host Campbell University. The Stags finished the two-day event with a 3-1 record including a win over Georgia Tech on day one of the tournament.

Today, the Stags jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat as Amanda Ulzheimer led off the game with a base hit. Mikayla Rubin singled through the left side of the infield to put runners on first and second. After a double play, Kristin Ball sent a grounder to second base which was misplayed, allowing the run to come home. The lead was short lived as fGeorgia Tech put up five hits which translated into four runs that spotted the designated home team an early lead. The team posted five more runs in its next at-bat, wrapping three hits around a pair of errors that led to a few unearned runs in the frame. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third led to the team's 10th run on the afternoon.

Fairfield was able to put together a string of hits in the top of the fifth inning which brought the team closer, using four hits to plate three runs. After Hannah Futo and Ulzheimer each collected a base hit, Rubin ripped a two-run double to right field which brought home two runs. Rubin scored off Lacey Olaff's double to right center, making the score 10-4. The Yellow Jackets put together their own three-run inning in their next at-bat which included a solo home run and a two-run blast that finished off the game, 13-4.

The Stags returned to the diamond in the afternoon for their only game against the host school. Senior Destinee Pallotto earned the start and scattered four hits to pick up her third win of the season, a 1-0 shutout of the Camels. Fairfield managed just two hits in the game but did it consecutively to bring home the only run. With two outs, Kate Robinson laced a double to left center field and came home one batter later when Makenna DiGuilio stroked an RBI triple to left field. Pallotto made the run stand by allowing only one hit in the fifth and seventh innings while retiring the side in order during the sixth inning. She finished the game with five strikeouts and three walks to earn the complete game victory.
