Game Notes
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball finishes up the regular season by hosting Monmouth University at Webster Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 1 pm tip. Before the game, the Stags will honor the senior class -
Jared Harper,
Jerome Segura, and
Tyler Nelson - with the ceremony beginning approximately 12:45 pm.Â
Fairfield will look to extend its current winning streak to a season-long four games with today's regular-season finale at Webster Bank Arena. The Stags have won three straight contests on one other occasion, edging Iona in overtime, Monmouth by one point, and Siena by 13 points in early February. The current streak was extended with a 70-69 win over Siena as
Tyler Nelson led all scorers with 18 points and was one of four Stags in double figures.
Ferron Flavors Jr. (14 points),
Jonathan Kasibabu (13), and
Aidas Kavaliauskas (12) also held the distinction.
Kevin Senghore-Peterson came off the bench to post a reserve-best five points, his best point total since netting eight points at Marist in mid-January. The game was tightly contested with neither side holding a lead of more than eight points. For the Stags, it was the second road conference win this season and first since defeating Monmouth on its home court. Nelson remains the team's top scorer for the season, tossing in 21.8 points per game. The senior added three assists to bring his season total to 91 with hopes of hitting 100 for the second straight season (112 in 2016-17). Flavors Jr. raised his scoring average to 12.1 points per game, while Kasibabu represents the top rebounder with 5.4 per contest.
The Hawks won their second straight game and ended Rider's 10-game win streak with a 91-77 win at home. Monmouth never trailed in the game as the team opened up a 10-point lead (13-3) just three minutes into the game. The home team led by as many as 23 points in the game before settling on the 14-point advantage. Micah Seaborn returned to the lineup on February 18 after missing seven games and has led the team to wins in both of his appearances. The forward scored 21 points in the first half and finished with 30 points in the Rider decision after posting 15 points in the program's win over Siena.Â
Seaborn, who has started 11 of his 15 appearances this year, is the team's top scorer with 15.8 points per game. He is shooting 47 percent from three-point range (40 of 84). Deion Hammond is next in line with 12.1 points per game while Austin Tilghman nets 11.4 points per contest. Tilghman has dished off 156 assists this season and is tied for second in the MAAC with 5.6 per game.
