Stags Welcome William & Mary to Alumni Hall on Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will welcome their first opponent to the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall for the 2018-19 season when the Tribe of William & Mary takes on the Stags on Sunday at 2pm. The game will also serve as the women's basketball program's Alzheimer's Awareness game as the team will be wearing purple shoelaces to promote the awareness. The team will also be collecting donations to benefit the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to support Alzheimer's awareness.

This will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools with the Tribe taking a 57-47 decision in Virginia last season. Sam Kramer and Khadidiatou Diouf are among the active Stags to have scored in double figures in that contest, netting 12 and 10 points respectively.

Fairfield will be looking to break a four-game losing streak following their stay at the Turkey Tip-off in Providence, R.I. The Stags dropped their contests to Brown, Bucknell, and UMass. Diouf was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 14.3 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 63 percent from the floor and 82 percent from the free throw line.

Diouf's 84.2 percentage from the charity stripe leads the team. As a squad, the Stags are the best free throw shooting team in the MAAC, hitting 80 percent of their shots. That number is ranked ninth in the country and would be the best percentage in program history.

The Tribe will bring a 3-2 record when they make their first-ever trip to the state of Connecticut this weekend. The squad will play at Hartford on Friday night before making their first appearance at Alumni Hall.

Senior Bianca Boggs leads the team with 16.4 points per night 8.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per night. Boggs is the only player in the CAA that ranks in the top six in the league in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Boggs was selected to the Preseason All-CAA First-Team after a breakout junior season. The senior captain became the first Tribe player in a decade to receive First-Team All-CAA honors as she claimed the award last season.

With the Fairfield Prep football game, fans are asked to park behind Alumni Hall or in the Kelly Center parking garage.

The Stags will stay home when they host Northeastern on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7pm.
