FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will head to the West Coast for a three-day tournament featuring Longwood University, University of Denver, and host Seattle University. The three-game multiple team event starts a long road swing for the Stags which includes seven contests away from campus in an eight-game span.
The Lancers won their first four games of the season before falling to Charlotte, 42-39. Longwood suffered through its worst shooting night of the young season by making 14 field goals and garnering a .350 team field goal percentage. The loss was the first for first-year Head Coach Griff Aldrich, who came to the school after serving as an assistant at UMBC. Isaiah Walton collected a double-double for Longwood, posting 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Lorenzo Phillips just missed hitting the mark with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Longwood led through most of the first 30 minutes of the game until Charlotte rallied to take the lead with 10 minutes left in regulation. Longwood committed a season-high 21 turnovers which led to just 45 field goal attempts in the game. Walton represents the team's top scorer with a 19.5 scoring average, the only Lancer in double figures. Phillips is just under double digits with his 9.6 points per contest. Walton completes his all-around game with 8.0 rebounds per game.
Fairfield will open the multiple-team event with Longwood University (4-1) and continue with a game against the host school (3-2) and finish with a contest against Denver (1-2). Fairfield comes off a 79-73 setback against Wagner and brought the team record to 1-3 overall this season. The squad split its first two road games of the season before dropping both of its home games last week.
