LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Fairfield women's tennis opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play today with a 6-1 win over Rider.
The Stags began the day winning the Doubles competition point with two out of three wins. Freshmen
Aina March and
Amanda Nowak continued their fantastic start to the season with a (6-3) win over Vanessa Canda and Amanda Binder in #2 Doubles.
Courtney Connors and
Sophia Prinos won their match by default in #3 Doubles to solidify the Doubles point for Fairfield.
Diana Prinos started off Singles competition with a win over Cyd Melendez (6-2, 6-0) in #1 Singles while
Amanda Nowak followed with a win in #2 Singles over Vanessa Canda (6-1, 6-1). In #4 Singles,
Aina March took down Amanda Binder (6-1, 6-0) and
Jessica Pil defeated Sydney Jeffrey (6-0, 6-3) in #5 Singles. Sophica Prinos tallied a win by default in #6 Singles giving the Stags a 6-1 win over the Broncs.
"The women came out a little flat in doubles but picked it up in singles" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "I'm very happy with our fall team results for the women. They came in ready and have played at a high-level day in and day out."
Fairfield will return to action this week as they take part in the ITA Northeast Regional tournament starting Thursday, October 11 to October 15.
