Field Hockey Falls to Saint Louis in Final Regular Season Contest

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield field hockey battled through the nor'easter today in their final game of the regular season and the team's senior day, but the Stags could not pull out a win as they fell to Saint Louis 3-0.

Just six minutes into the first half, the Billikens took an early 1-0 lead as Lili Wareham got a pass through the middle of the defense to Carly Kissinger who was able put the ball in the cage for the first goal of the game.  At the 25-minute mark, the Stags were awarded their first penalty corner but could not convert. A minute later, the Billikens were awarded their first penalty corner and took advantage as Emily Wastell scored from the top of the crease off of the pass from Kayleigh Fleming.   The Stags put the pressure on at the end of the half, but Saint Louis would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The teams would go back and forth in the second half but neither team could muster a successful attack.  With fourteen minutes left in the game, Erica Bondoc took control of a loose ball at the top of the circle and sent it into the cage to give the Billikens a 3-0 lead which would hold to be the final score of the game.

Fairfield finished the game with 11 shots and six of them on goal while Saint Louis only took five shots with three of them on goal.  Both teams finished with four penalty corners a piece.

Fairfield will travel down to Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J. to take on Rider in the semifinals of the MAAC Championships on Friday, November 2 at 11 A.M.
