Men's Tennis Edged By Wagner

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men's tennis put forth a tremendous effort this afternoon in front of their home crowd on Alumni & Family Weekend against Wagner, as they fought for every point but came up short falling by a score of 4-3.

In Doubles competition, Lewis Edwards and Tyler Shibles took down Anatoliy Lashkul and Dale Sandy (6-4) in #1 Doubles but the Stags could not get a win in #2 or #3 Doubles as Wagner took the Doubles point and a 1-0 lead.

In Singles competition, Tyler Shibles defeated Lucas Gonzalez in #2 Singles (6-4, 6-3) while Allan Magid took down Siddharth Anand (7-6, 6-3) in #6 Singles.  In #4 Singles, Jeffrey Rodgers tabbed a win over Hans Ohrner (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).  With the score tied 3-3, Brad Orban did his best to pick up the winning point but ultimately fell to Anatoliy Lashkul in #1 Singles (2-6, 6-1, 5-7).

"It was a tough loss today" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker.  "We came out and got pushed around in doubles and lost the point. Unfortunately, that cost us the match. We fought hard in singles and I'm proud of our effort. We just need to step it up on the doubles court going forward."

Fairfield will return to action on Wednesday, October 24 as they host cross town rival Sacred Heart on the Walsh Athletic Center tennis courts at 3 P.M.
