FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Casey Foley poured in a career-high 17 points and a total of eight different Stags entered the scoring column as the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team led from buzzer to buzzer in a 62-41 victory over Saint Peter's on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall.
Foley continued her hot-shooting that she gained in the second half at Marist where she went 3-for-4 from deep, having the best shooting night of her career. The junior nailed four of her seven opportunities from behind the arc, raising her average to a team-high .364 from long range. The junior broke the only tie of the ball game at the 7:51 mark where she converted a traditional 3-point play to give the Stags (7-10, 4-2 MAAC) a 5-2 lead.
It would be all Stags in the first quarter as Fairfield held Saint Peter's (3-13, 0-5 MAAC) to just three points, the lowest total by any opponent this season. The Stags would grab a 15-3 lead after the first quarter and extend that advantage to 20-points with a 36-16 score at halftime.
The first half really showed the team dynamic on offense as eight different players got into the scoring column. Aside from Foley's 11 at the break,
Samantha Cooper,
Kendra Landy, and
Erika Schlosser all totaled five points through the first 20 minutes.
The Stags had their best shooting numbers in the second quarter as they shot 53 percent from the field and netted 21 points.
Fairfield would run the lead up to 30 midway through the third quarter as they started the period on a 12-4 run.
Khadidiatou Diouf was responsible for seven of those points with
Macey Hollenshead contributing a layup and Schlosser nailing her second trifecta of the contest.
Saint Peter's would score the final nine points of the game for the final 21-point decision.
The offense was run through both Landy and
Sam Kramer who combined to dish out eight assists on just one turnover. Diouf joined Foley in double figures for the fifth time in her last six outings.
On the defensive side, the Stags held Saint Peter's to opponent season-lows in points (41), field goals made (15), field goal percentage (.263), and assists (seven).
The Stags will now embark on their longest remaining road trip when they travel to Quinnipiac on Saturday at 2pm, the first of three games on the road.
