Stags Wrap Up Non-Conference Schedule Friday Night

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The final non-conference match of the 2017 Fairfield University women's soccer season will come under the lights of Lessing Field when the Stags host NJIT on Friday at 7pm. With a victory, the Stags will finish their non-conference slate with an even .500 record (3-3), before turning their attention to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play next week.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: For the second-straight weekend, the Stags split their two weekend matches, posting an overtime 2-1 victory at Binghamton and a 3-0 setback at Syracuse. In the victory, which was the 500th match played in program history, Alex Madden put across the game-winning goal in the first overtime period. Madden is the first Stag this season to tally multiple goals, and she is one of nine conference players to have recorded more than one score. Sara Plowman also reached the scoring column, tying the game late in the second half. Megan DeFeo tied her career-high with nine saves in goal
 
INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY: The match will also be Fairfield's International Literacy Day. As part of the promotion, general admission tickets will be $3 with the donation of a new or gently-used book to benefit the Bridgeport Public Library and Operation Hope.
 
THE HIGHLANDERS SCOUTING REPORT: The Highlanders will enter Friday night with a 2-3 record, with both victories coming against MAAC schools (a 2-0 win over Marist and a 4-0 triumph against Saint Peter's. Sophomore Fiorella Doglio is tied for the team lead with two goals while graduate student Carly Berdan has also chipped in two scores. In goal, Amelia Sapirman has appeared in the last two matches, shutting out both of her opponents. In total, she maintains a 0.59 goals against average with 18 saves for a .900 save percentage.
 
UP NEXT: The Stags will have a week to rest before they embark on conference play, which starts in Loudonville, N.Y., against Siena on Saturday, September 16 at 1pm.
