FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats added two of their league-leading 30 goals in the first four minutes and held on to defeat the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team by a 2-0 score. With the loss, the Stags drop to 4-6 overall and fall to 2-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Both Quinnipiac (6-4-1; 3-0-1 MAAC) goals came in the first four minutes of the match, starting with a Kelsey Goldring score 30 seconds into the contest. Goldring took a cross from the left corner and finished to the left of the net. The Bobcats wasted no time for their second score as Goldring connected with Ally Grunstein to put the road side up 2-0.
The next 85 minutes were scoreless with only 13 combined shots the rest of the way. Fairfield (4-6, 2-2 MAAC) had their chances with five shots on goal, but most of the attempts were hit hard on a line to the Quinnipiac goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski, who stopped all five shots.
Alex Madden had the majority of the opportunities for the Stags as she unleashed four shots, three on target. The Stags had contributions off the bench as
Kiley Deignan and
Alexa DiComitis both appeared in their first career contest for the Stags. Deignan had one of the best all-around efforts on the team as she controlled the midfield for the majority of her minutes.
Jenna Pike made two saves in her first start of the season.
The Stags will try and get back to a winning conference record when they travel to Canisius to face the Golden Griffins on Saturday at 1pm.
