FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Director of Athletics Gene Doris announced today the promotion of two members of his marketing staff in preparation for the 2016-17 school year. Abigail Corning MBA'16 has been elevated to the position of Coordinator of Marketing & Fan Experience after serving the previous two years as the Graduate Assistant for Athletics Marketing. Corning, who received her MBA from Fairfield University this past May, will manage the in-game experience for all Fairfield Athletics events, oversee community relations, group sales efforts, the Lil Stags Club, Lucas the Stag and serve as the advisor to the Stags in the Stands student group.
Additionally, Zach Dayton has been promoted to the position of Senior Associate Athletics Director for Marketing & Communications. Dayton, hired in April of 2015 as the Associate Athletics Director for Marketing & Communications, will continue to have oversight of the marketing and communications units while also adding the role of sport supervisor for the men's and women's varsity golf programs.
Fairfield Athletics is coming off of a strong year with the successful completion of many projects related to marketing and communications. Projects included the redesign of FairfieldStags.com – the first responsive website in the MAAC – as well as the launch of ShopFairfieldStags.com, which features over 900 items for purchase related to Fairfield Athletics, and increases in lacrosse attendance, community partnerships, suite sales and Stags Club members.
2015-16 also featured the successful re-launch of the Stags mascot Lucas. The campaign included Lucas throwing out the first pitch at Citi Field before a Mets game, an NYC tour visiting Fairfield alumni as well as an appearance in an ESPN commercial which aired during Monday Night Football, NBA on Christmas Day and the College Football Playoff. The #LucasOnTheLoose campaign won the gold in the 2016 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) “Best Of” Awards for revenue-generating idea.
