Top-Seeded Stags Ready For MAAC Tournament Play

WAPPINGER FALLS, N.Y. – The Stags have already received their trophy for winning the MAAC Regular Season title, but now they turn their attention to the grand prize: a conference championship. The Stags will enter the tournament as the top-seed and open their tournament play on Wednesday at 7pm against the lowest winning seed from the previous two games (No. 3 Monmouth vs No. 6 Manhattan; and No. 4 Canisius vs No. 5 Marist). The Stags will be looking for their fourth MAAC title in program history and the first since 1993. Fairfield won the regular season title in 1983 with a 4-1 record and won the MAAC South Division in 1991 and 1993.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: There were plenty of heroes in the regular season finale, but no one sticks out quite like Brendan Tracy. In his final at-bat at Alumni Diamond, and on his Senior Day, the senior launched a walk-off grand slam to clinch the program's first regular season title since 1983 and the top-seed in the tournament. Mac Crispino kept the Stags in the game by tying the game twice, the second hit coming as a two-run single in the eighth inning. The Stags' pinch hitter Mitch Williams took the first pitch he saw in the gap in the eighth, to give the Stags a lead.

FAIRFIELD IN THE MAAC TOURNAMENT: This will be the sixth MAAC tournament appearance for the Stags and the third under the now two-time MAAC Coach of the Year Bill Currier. The last time the Stags qualified for the tournament was in 2014 and they advanced to the winner bracket finals after winning their first two games. Fairfield also made the conference championship in 1995, 1997, 2000, 2012, and 2014. Fairfield has made the Championship game twice (1995 and 2000), the last one in 2000 was hosted at Dutchess Stadium.

UP NEXT: If the Stags win they will advance to the winner's bracket final on Friday at noon. If Fairfield loses their first game, they will go into the loser's bracket and play on Friday at 3:30pm.
