Baseball Moves Game at St. John's to Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Stags will play their first game of the season away from the state of North Carolina. The Fairfield University baseball team will travel to St. John's for a matchup against the Red Storm that will air live on ESPN3. It is the 16th-straight season these two teams will meet as the Stags look to snap a 13-game losing streak in the series and pick up their first win since 2005. The 2016 edition of the series has first pitch at Jack Kaiser Stadium is at 3pm.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags dropped two games in the three game series against Charlotte, including a 13-inning affair in the rubber game. Jake Salpietro was the leading hitter for the Stags against the 49ers, getting a hit in all three games in the series and held a .538 batting average (7-for-13). The senior also slugged a homerun and drove in three runs, including the eventual game-winner in the opener. Kyle Dube got the lone win in the series, scattering four hits and allowing one earned run on Friday.

FAIRFIELD VS ST. JOHN'S: This will be the 33rd meeting all-time between the two teams and the Red Storm have dominated that margin with a 28-4 record. The Stags have dropped the last 13-games in the series dating back to 2005. That last victory was the upset of the year for the 2005 Stags, who came into the contest 1-10 and defeated the 8-7 Red Storm 18-13. Brian Rudolph led the Stags with a game-high four hits including his first home run of the spring.

THE RED STORM SCOUTING REPORT: The Red Storm are coming off an unusual 2-2 tie against Southern Illinois, as the game was called in extra innings due to travel curfew. Among regular contributors, Jamie Galazin leads the team with a .379 batting average during his 13 games played. St. John's will throw freshman Michael LoPresti who will be making his second career starts. The first 18 batters he has faced in his college career are hitting a collective .111.

UP NEXT: The Stags hit the road again when they travel to Delaware for a three-game series against the Blue Hens starting on Friday at 3pm.
