FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team has dropped two in a row after the season opening win. They now sit at 1-2 and will travel to Hempstead, New York to face Hofstra on Saturday at noon. Saturday will mark the first of six straight games away from home for the Stags.
Fairfield (1-2) vs. Hofstra University (0-2):Â The Stags and Pride will meet on Saturday for the 13th time in program history in a series that dates back to 1997 with Hofstra leading the all-time series 11-1. Last season, Fairfield was on the losing side, falling 9-5 on February 22. The last and only win for the Stags against the Pride was in 2012 with a 12-8 victory at home.
Scouting the Pride:Â Hofstra is currently 0-2 this season after losses to New Hampshire and Harvard. Last weekend against Harvard, the Pride fell by a score of 16-8 in their first home game of the season. Leading the way on offense was Lindsay Scott who posted five points on the day with three goals and two assists. Scott leads the team this season with nine points and six goals. The Pride have played two net minders this season in junior Alexis Greene and freshman Maddie Fields. Greene has logged nearly 20 more minutes than the freshman, but Fields posts the better numbers with a 9.98 goals against average and a .385 save percentage.
Last Time Out: The Fairfield women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-11 decision to Columbia on Wednesday afternoon. Chelsey Sidaras got her third start in net making seven saves against 23 Columbia shots. On offense, the Stags were led by four point days from both Julieanne Mascera (3 goals, 1 assist) and Maeve Quinn (1g, 3a). Riley Hellstein added three goals and Colleen Reynolds chipped in two, while Kelly Camardo and Alex Fehmel each added one score.Â
Looking Ahead:Â Fairfield will match up twice next week, first at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, March 2 and then on Saturday, March 5 at New Hampshire.
