Stags Welcome Columbia University on Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will look to bounce back after Saturday's loss to Boston University. The Stags will welcome the Columbia University Lions to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.

Fairfield (1-1) vs. Columbia University (0-1): The Stags and Lions will meet on Wednesday for the ninth time in program history. Fairfield is 1-7 all-time against Columbia. The last meeting between the two sides came back on April 16, 2008, a game in which the Stags won 10-9.

Scouting the Lions: Columbia University is currently 0-1 this season after a 6-5 overtime loss to Drexel on February 20. Against the Dragons, Columbia tied the game at five with just two seconds left on the clock. But Drexel ended the game just 15 seconds into overtime to claim the win. Midfielders Jessie Ambrose and Joy Caroline led the way on offense for the Lions each tallying two goals. Sophomore Kelsey Gedin got the nod in net making nine saves while facing 19 Drexel shots.

Last Time Out: The Fairfield women's lacrosse team fell 13-8 to Boston University on Saturday afternoon.  A Terrier run of five straight goals beginning at the 1:27 mark in the first half put the visitors up by five and they never looked back. Fairfield was paced by Julieanne Mascera's three goals, followed by Colleen Reynolds with two. Maeve Quinn, Riley Hellstein, and Alex Fehmel all recorded one goal apiece. Chelsey Sidaras made the start in net facing 36 shots and making 12 saves on the day.

Starting the Year Off Right: Juniors Alex Fehmel and Riley Hellstein both had career days in the season opening win against LIU Brooklyn. Fehmel set a career high with six goals and seven points; while Hellstein also added a career high six goals and eight draw controls which matched a Fairfield single game record.

Looking Ahead: Wednesday's matchup will end their season opening three game home stand and begin a streak of six consecutive contests away from Rafferty Stadium. The road trip begins Saturday, February 27 at Hofstra.
