FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey lost a tough 3-2 decision to UC Davis on Friday afternoon.

The Aggies came out ready to play and had a 2-0 lead just eight minutes into the game. The first score came just under a minute into the game when Augustina Singh received a pass right in front of cage from Eden Borsack. Then, on a very similar play, Courtney Hazy controlled a centering pass from Danielle Koehne. Singh and Hazy would each find themselves with the ball right in front of the cage and easily put it in the back of the net.

Just about five minutes later the Stags would get on the board. Junior forward Ann Burgoyne would notch her fifth goal of the season when she took a pass from sophomore midfielder Jaclyn Gallagher and had a breakaway to the net where was eventually able to beat the keeper.

The Stags would strike next and tie the game at two when senior forward Erin Connors found herself in front of the goal and on the receiving end of a Jamie Appelberg cross. The senior captain would then beat the goalie for her first career goal.

Fairfield and UC Davis would enter the break even at two goals apiece. Jamie Garcia would end the scoring drought for the Aggies and put her team in the lead by one. Garcia was able to convert off a penalty corner by Koehne that was stopped by Hannah Drawbridge who set the shot up perfectly for Garcia to capitalize and score the game winner.

The Stags and Aggies were nearly even in shots taken and penalty corners throughout the game. UC Davis recorded 15 shots to Fairfield's 14 and UC Davis took seven penalty corners while Fairfield took six.

Sophomore defender Erin Buckley led the way with four total shots including three on goal. Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Bennett started in cage for the third straight game and made six saves on the day.

Fairfield will take its first road trip of the season next weekend when they head to Philadelphia to face Drexel on Friday and Villanova on Sunday.
