Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Tori Reed hit a home run for the second consecutive game and fourth in the last six contests to lead the Fairfield University softball team to a 6-0 win over Sacred Heart University. Reed hit a three-run shot in the fifth inning that closed out the scoring for the Stags.
Sacred Heart threatened to score in the top of the first after Lauren Delgadillo and Victoria D'Addario singled to start the game. But pitcher Destinee Pallotto worked her way out of the jam with a strikeout to end the inning. The Stags posted three runs in the bottom of the first, a rally started by Lauren Filicia's walk. Sammy Ruffolo followed with a double down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position. Reed's infield single loaded the bases, setting a bases-loaded walk by Sam Frungillo to make it a 1-0 game. Gianna Kinhofer sent a single up the middle to score two more runs for a 3-0 Fairfield lead.
The game remained at 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth as Brianna Levick opened the inning with a walk. A sacrifice bunt allowed runners on first and second after the throw to second base was not in time. Ruffolo sent the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt which Reed followed with her blast over the left-center field fence.
Pallotto earned the victory with four-plus innings of work, her third victory of the season. The freshman scattered six hits and fanned two batters to earn the victory. Nicole Gardon finished the game by surrendering just one hit and striking out a batter. Neither pitcher issued a walk in the game.
