Softball Rallies For 6-3 Win Over Wagner

Box Score

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Lauren Filicia extended her hitting streak to 15 games with a pair of singles and scored four runs in the Fairfield University softball team's 6-4 road win over Wagner College.

Filicia added to her hitting streak with a single in the third inning, two innings after she helped put the Stags in front. The outfielder started the game by reaching base following an error. She stole second base and went to third after a sacrifice bunt from Tori Reed. Sam Frungillo came to the batter's box and grounded out, a play which sent home the first run.

The Stags tacked on a run in the third inning, a rally started by Filicia's first single of the game. She advanced to second with Sammy Ruffolo's bunt and took third base off Reed's fly ball. Filicia made it 2-0 when she sprinted home off a wild pitch. The lead went to 3-0 in the fourth inning courtesy of doubles from Gianna Kinhofer and Nicole Capra.

Wagner rallied for three runs in the fourth inning, taking advantage of four hits which included three doubles to tie the score at 3-3. Fairfield broke the tie in its next at-bat, plating a single run that pushed the score to 4-3. Once again, Filicia was the catalyst for the offense with a base hit that would eventually set up Frungillo's RBI single later in the inning.

The final runs came home in the seventh inning as Reed slammed a two-run home run that closed the scoring at 6-3.

Lauren Falkanger earned the win by scattering eight hits and striking out four batters. She eventually yielded to Nicole Gardon who allowed just three hits in three-plus innings.

Fairfield is scheduled to return to the diamond on Wednesday when it hosts Quinnipiac University for a MAAC doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
