NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- The Stags softball team finally received the chance to play in the state of Connecticut even though it was considered a road game. Fairfield dropped a pair of games to Central Connecticut State University this afternoon by 4-3 and 7-2 scores.

Fairfield opened the scoring in its first at-bat, plating a run in the top of the first inning. Kristen Filicia started the game with a single and was sacrificed to second base. Sammy Ruffolo singled to put runners on the corners, but the situation changed after the senior stole second base. Sam Frungillo walked to load the bases which Gianna Kinhofer followed with a single to push the score to 1-0.

The Blue Devils tied the game with a solo home run in the second inning and grabbed the lead with another run n the fourth, using two hits and a fielder's choice that gave the home team a 2-1 edge. The Stags regained the lead in the fifth inning, a rally which started after Brianna Levick reached on an error. Two batters later, Tori Reed ripped a two-run home run over the left field fence to make it 3-2 in favor of the visitors.

Central Connecticut put together the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning by converting four hits into a pair of runs that closed the scoring at 4-3.

In the second game, Fairfield opened the second game with a run in the top of the first as Reed hit her second home run of the day. The Blue Devils took control of the game in the second inning with three runs. The Stags tacked on a run in the fifth inning, courtesy of an RBI single from Frungillo. Fairfield had two runners thrown out at the plate during the inning, preventing from the team coming any closer.

The Stags will host the University of Hartford on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader with the first pitch at 12 pm. It will be the first date on the Stags' home field Alumni Softball Diamond.this season.
