Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Eight different Stags had a base hit but it was not enough to stop UConn's come-from-behind victory as the Huskies posted a 5-2 win at Alumni Softball Diamond. Lauren Filicia was the only Fairfield player with two hits in the game.
Fairfield put the first runs on the board by rallying for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Angelina McGuire started things off by drawing a one-out walk. The freshman stole second base and came home when Nicole Capra laced a double to left-center field to make it a 1-0 lead. Brianna Levick followed with a well-placed single that pushed Capra to third base, putting runners on the corner. Filicia sent a base hit down the right-field line to double up the Fairfield lead at 2-0.
UConn came right back and scored two runs in the top of the third inning, collecting five hits off starter Lauren Falkanger and reliever Nicole Gardon. Jaclyn DuBois and Alyson Ambler drove home the two Husky runs with singles.
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth inning when UConn broke through against Fairfield's third pitcher Destinee Pallotto. The run scored when a pitch skipped by the catcher which allowed Lexi Gifford to come home with the team's third run. Gifford reached the base paths when she doubled to lead off the inning.
The Huskies tacked on a run in the top of the sixth and the seventh innings to push the game out of reach. UConn outhit the Stags by a 12-9 margin, including two hits in each of their last three at-bats.
Fairfield returns to conference play on Sunday when it takes on Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
