LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Lauren Filicia recorded four hits while Sam Frungillo, Sammy Ruffolo, and Kate Robinson each added three base hits to help the Fairfield University softball team sweep Rider University by 4-3 and 6-4 scores. The Stags rallied to take the lead in both games, overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the second contest.

In the opener, Fairfield took an early lead and appeared as though it would lead from wire-to-wire. The Stags loaded the bases to start the third inning off singles from Brianna Levick, Filicia, and Ruffolo but Rider was able to retire the next two hitters. Robinson stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run single to push Fairfield in front at 2-0.

After yielding a run in the bottom of the inning, the Stags regained its two-run lead with a single run in the fifth inning after Frungillo pulled a single down the right field line to send home Rufffolo for a 3-1 edge. Rider tied the game in the fifth with a two-out, two-run single that made it a 3-3 game.

The Stags ended up scoring the game-winner in their final at-bat, a rally started with a lead-off double from Robinson. After taking third when Gianna Kinhofer's grounder was mishandled, the freshman came around to score when Angelina McGuire lofted a sacrifice fly.

Lauren Falkanger earned her eighth win of the season by striking out five and allowing six hits to even her record at 8-8.

In the second game, Rider jumped out to a 3-1 lead through three innings. Fairfield rallied to score a run in the top of the fourth when Kinhofer and McGuire registered back-to-back single and both moved up a base on an outfield error. Nicole Capra brought the run home with a bunt single to make it a 3-2 game.

The Stags added four more runs to their total in the sixth inning, stringing together four hits to account for the scoring. Kristen Ball brought the first two runs home with a base hit, while Filicia and Tori Reed tacked on an RBI single to close out the Stags' scoring.

Rider made a comeback bid in the seventh inning and scored once but could not plate any more runs off Destinee Pallotto. The freshman earned her fourth win of the sea son by two earned runs and seven hits while fanning four hitters.
