Box Score 2 STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Gianna Kinhofer and Lauren Filicia each registered three hits in Wednesday's doubleheader against Stony Brook, but the Seawolves rallied to win both games as the Seawolves swept the Stags 7-2 and 4-2. The two victories ended Fairfield's eight-game winning streak.
The two teams battled through a scoreless game which carried into the fifth inning. After the Stags came up without a run in their half of the inning, Stony Brook posted seven runs in its turn at the plate to take control of the game. A two-run double and a three-run homer were at the heart of the rally. The Stags managed to place a couple of runs starting with a run in the sixth inning. Kinhofer and Kate Robinson each stroked a single and moved up a base after a walk to Angelina McGuire. Kristen Ball came to the plate as a pinch hitter and earned a walk to force in the team's first run.
Fairfield tacked on a run in the seventh inning which started with Sammy Ruffolo's bunt single. She was sacrificed to second base and came home when Sam Frungillo drilled a double to make the final score 7-2.
The second game started much better for the visitors as Fairfield scored the first two runs of the game. Filicia opened the game with a base hit and took second after Ruffolo's bunt. Robinson collected an infield hit which put runners on the corner. Frungillo followed with a sacrifice fly to chase Filicia home. Fairfield doubled its advantage in the second inning Once again, a leadoff single started the rally but this time Ball was the catalyst. After being sacrificed to second base, Filicia brought her home with a single.
Stony Brook came back to tie the game with a single run in the fourth and fifth innings. A leadoff homer from Shayla Giosia put the Seawolves on the board and added her second RBI with a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, setting up a game-winning two-run home run from Bria Green.
Fairfield will take a couple days to prepare for a pair of doubleheader this weekend against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foes Rider University (Saturday) and Monmouth University (Sunday).
