Box Score 2 SHIRLEY, N.Y. – The Fairfield University softball team dropped a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games to Canisius College this afternoon, falling 7-6 in the first game and 4-1 in the night cap. Lauren Filicia recorded five hits in the doubleheader for the Stags, including a 3 for 4 effort with two RBI in the first game.
Fairfield scored the first runs of the afternoon in the bottom of the third inning of game one. With one out, Filica sliced a single which Tori Reed followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Sammy Ruffolo followed with the team's third straight hit, a single that brought home Filicia for a 1-0 lead. Sam Frungillo tacked on another a base hit that chased home Reed for a 2-0 advantage.
Canisius took the lead in the fifth inning with three runs, highlighted by a two-run double by Mo Harris that gave the visitors a 3-2 edge. The Golden Griffs seemed to put the game away with a four-run seventh inning but the Stags were not done. Fairfield plated four runs itself and had the tying run on base but the team came up short in the 7-6 final. Kate Robinson started the rally with a solo home run while Ruffolo added an RBI base hit and Frungillo drove in two runs with a single off the first-base bag.
In the second game, Fairfield fell behind and was not able to recover from Canisius early lead. Nicole Capra brought home the team's only run in the contest with a base hit, sending home Robinson in the fourth inning.
