Softball Gains A Split With Win Over Monmouth

                 ORLANDO, Fla. – Sammy Ruffolo, Lauren Filicia, and Gianna Kinhofer each drove home a pair of runs to lead the Fairfield University softball team to a 9-4 win over Monmouth University in a game at the UCF Spring Fling. The Stags dropped the second game on the day by a 9-0 margin to the University of Illinois-Chicago.

                Fairfield built an early lead against Monmouth, by scoring a single run in the third and fourth innings followed by two more runs in the fifth inning. Kinhofer drove home the second run with a base hit, just after the Stags took a 1-0 lead following a passed ball. Ruffolo was responsible for the third and fourth runs when she stroked a two-run double.

                Monmouth battled back with four runs in the fifth inning which tied the score at 4-4. IN the sixth inning, the Stags took control with runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Kate Robinson and a two-run single from Filicia. The Stags closed out the scoring off back-to-back doubles from Tori Reed and Kinhofer to make it a 9-4 final.

                Later in the day, UIC handed Fairfield a 9-0 decision in five innings, plating four runs in the second and third innings. Fairfield managed only one hit in the game, a single from Filicia.

                Fairfield closes out the UCF Spring Fling tournament with a game against Butler on Sunday.
