Men's Varsity 8 Grabs Gold At Head Of The Housatonic

                SHELTON, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's first varsity 8 captured the gold medal at the 2014 Head of the Housatonic, highlighting a strong effort by the entire team. In addition, the second varsity 8 and the men's novice 8 both finished well in their respective races to give the Stags a solid all-around performance.

                The varsity 8 race saw two Stags entries finish in the top five with the A boat finishing the race in 14:18 and the B boat securing fifth place with a time of 15:06. New York Maritime, Coast Guard, and Rensselaer finished in between the two Fairfield entries. The A boat included Luke Pettenati, Alex Nowicki, Tom Siddall, Luke Auger, Charles Serpa, Kier Kaiser, Cameron Bowen, Travis Day, and coxswain Olivia Vita. In the second shell, the Stags were comprised of Cameron Shalkowski, Jack Carty, Robert Lawler, Chris Calitri, William Quentin, Sam Sullivan, Nick Greco, George Bellos, and coxswain Anya Plucinsky.

                Fairfield took home sixth place in the novice 8 behind the efforts of Jack Santoro, Jack Packhem, Jack Crowley, Casey Fuller, Tanner Childs, John O'Neil, Ryan Ferrera, Jesus Cruz, and coxswain Kara Reese. Three Ivy League schools grabbed the top three spots in the event, namely Brown (13:46), Columbia (14:25), and Brown (15:45). Fairfield ended its day with a time of 16:00.

                The Stags return to the water on October 18 when they travel north for the Head of the Charles.
