PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Fairfield University field hockey team defeated Saint Joseph's University, 3-2, in a shootout with senior
Shealyn Testa supplying the game-winner.
The Stags (3-1) and the Hawks were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation. After two scoreless overtime periods, Fairfield and Saint Joseph's found themselves in a shootout. With the goals even at 3-3 in the shootout, Testa scored the game-winning goal to send Fairfield off with a win.

Julie de Paeuw each scored a goal for the Stags during regulation.
About five minutes into the first half, the Hawks took the lead when Marin Vreeburg passed across to Shannon McNeill for the first goal of the game. The Stags battled back when Leo scored off a rebounded shot at 30:22, tying the game 1-1.
Fairfield dominated play for much of the second half with three-straight penalty corners. Saint Joseph's, however, managed to take the lead with a goal off a penalty corner at 42:08. Nearly one minute later, the Stags evened things up with a deflected goal from de Paeuw to force overtime.
Hillary Fitts picked up an assist on de Paeuw's third goal of the season.
Goalkeeper
Caitlin Bennett faced 10 shots on the day, stopping eight while Saint Joseph's Rachel Barnett made six saves. The Stags out-shot the Hawks 17-12 and had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Fairfield will continue on the road stopping at UConn on September 13 before returning home on September 15 to face La Salle on University Field at 12pm.
