BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Fairfield University volleyball team fell to Cornell University 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21) this afternoon at the LIU Brooklyn Blackbird Invitational.
Sophomore
Hadley Orr had a team-high nine kills along with eight digs. Junior
Caitlin Stapleton had six kills and two total blocks. Freshman
Megan O'Sullivan, making her collegiate debut, recorded four kills on five swings, a block, and a dig.
Cornell (2-3) erased an early deficit in the first set by going on a 7-0 run to overtake the Stags, 13-9. With the momentum in their favor, the Big Red dominated the rest of the way in the 25-17 win. Cornell put forth a similar effort in the second set, using an early 6-1 run to shift momentum. The Big Red continued to pull away from the Stags, leading by as much as nine points before posting the 25-19 win.
Cornell jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the third set. Trailing 22-15, Fairfield mustered a 4-0 run to cut the gap to three points. The Big Red fought off the Stags, however, and posted a 25-21 win.
Fairfield (2-7) closes out action at the Blackbird Invitational tonight when the Stags face host LIU Brooklyn at 6:30pm.
