STORRS, Conn. - The Fairfield University field hockey team fell to No. 4 UConn, 4-0, this evening at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
The Huskies got off to an early start, taking the first two shots of the game off penalty corners. The Stags quickly answered with a shot from freshman
Julie de Paeuw, off a penalty corner, only eight minutes into the game. Fairfield continued to battle until UConn's Anne Jeute scored the first goal of the game, off an assist by Chloe Hunnable, two minutes later.
About four minutes into the second half, UConn's Chloe Hunnable scored her first goal of the game. The score became 3-0 when Hunnable scored her second straight goal in the bottom right corner at 44:20. The Stags continued to battle managing to get two shots off before UConn's Marie Elena Bolles scored the final goal of the game, off a pass from Roisin Upton.
Fairfield's
Felicitas Heinen took three shots while de Paeuw took two. Sophomores
Emily McCauley and
Kaitlyn Taddeo also each tallied one shot apiece. Goalkeeper
Caitlin Bennett tallied six saves while UConn's Sarah Mansfield totaled three.
Fairfield resumes play on Sunday, when the Stags return home to face La Salle on University Field at 12pm.
