FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University had 154 student-athletes named to the
2012-13 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic Honor Roll as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
A total of 1,625 student-athletes were honored for their achievements in the classroom. Marist College headed the list of honored student-athletes with 246, followed by Iona College with 165 and Fairfield with 154. Rounding out the list was: Loyola University Maryland with 136, Manhattan College with 136, Canisius College with 135, Niagara University with 124, Rider University with 123, Siena College with 123 and Saint Peter's University with 99. Among the associate members, Jacksonville University, which competes in men's lacrosse and women's rowing, had the most with 36. To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, an athlete must hold a grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Out of Fairfield's 154 student-athletes recognized, 25 came from the men's and women's swimming & diving teams while men's and women's soccer had a combined 25 selections. Men's and women's rowing had 21 student-athletes while men's and women's cross country had 20. Women's lacrosse had 17 student-athletes named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll as well.
Academic honors have been plentiful this spring for the Stags, with five programs - men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, men's swimming & diving, and volleyball - earning APR Recognition Awards from the NCAA. In addition, 67 percent of Fairfield student-athletes achieved at least a 3.0 GPA during the Spring 2013 semester. In all, 290 student-athletes earned spots in the Athletic Department 3.0 Club while 137 of those student-athletes were named to the University's Dean's List.
