The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 decision to James Madison University Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.  The Stags drop to 2-3 on the year, while the Dukes improve to 3-0.

The Dukes jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the first 9:38 of action, with Ali Curwin scoring the first goal 97 seconds into the game and the final goal of the run with 20:22 to play in the half.  Courtney Chmil of the Stags on the board with a tally at the 19:01 mark, but Curwin answered 26 seconds later to give the Dukes a 7-1 advantage.

The Stags put together a run of their own at that point, as Chloe Mangan netted back-to-back goals, the second a free-position goal at the 17:01 and 11:35 marks of the period.  Addie Reilly cut the Stags deficit to three, 7-4, with an unassisted goal at the 4:11 mark, but Steph Finley ended the scoring in the half at the 1:48 mark to send JMS to the break ahead 8-4.

Julianne Giles scored 4:48 into the second half to push the Dukes lead to 9-4 and again the Stags mounted a rally. Reilly scored 34 seconds apart, 23:44 and 23:10 to get the deficit to three, 9-6. Amanda Best scored the third goal of the run at 19:36 mark to make it 9-7, but the Stags could get no closer.  JMU put together a 4-0 run of its own, with Giles scoring unassisted with 1:43 to play to make the score 13-7.  Mangan wrapped-up the scoring, and completed her hat trick, with an unassisted goal with 50 seconds remaining.

The Stags finished with a 13-10 advantage in draw controls with Mangan leading the way with four.  She also had a game-high three caused turnovers as Fairfield forced nine of the Dukes 15 turnovers.  Olivia Ziegler picked up a game-high four ground balls for the Stags; a category JMU led 20-13 in the game.

Schylar Healy earned the win in net for James Madison making three of her four saves in the second-half. Katie Keenan took the loss for Fairfield without being credited for a save and recording one ground ball.

Fairfield, which has played three of its first four games this year on the road, begins a three-game homestand on Wednesday, March 6 when crosstown rival Sacred Heart visits Alumni Field.
