BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Maurice Barrow came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points as the Fairfield University men's basketball team posted its fifth straight win - a 61-44 decision over Saint Peter's University at Webster Bank Arena. The Stags improved to 15-10 overall and 7-6 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Peacocks dropped to 7-16 overall and 2-11 in MAAC action.

The teams started the game by shooting poorly as both teams made just one shot in their first seven attempts. The Stags field goal came at the 18:40 mark when Josip Mikulic netted a jumper. Saint Peter's tied the game on its next possession off Darius Conley's jump shot with 18:09 remaining. Conley would score the next basket nearly four minutes later, a fast-break layup with 14:36 on the clock to give the Peacocks the first of their two leads in the game.

Keith Matthews' jumper tied the game three minutes later, ending Fairfield's seven-minutes scoring drought and tying the score at 4-4 with 11:53 remaining in the half. The junior's basket started a 7-0 run that pushed the Stags in front by five points at 9-4. Fairfield continued to improve its lead over the next four minutes, taking its first double-digit lead of the game with 2:39 remaining, making it a 24-14 game after Barrow scored off a layup. Fairfield would head into the locker room at halftime with its biggest lead at 30-19.

Colin Nickerson started the second half by making a pair of three-point field goals in the first three minutes that kicked off a 7-0 run which raised the Saint Peter's deficit to 18 points at 37-19 with 17 minutes remaining. The Peacocks would not come closer than 14 points the rest of the way, pulling within 40-26 with 14:29 on the clock. Fairfield came right back with quick points which were fueled by a layup from Barrow and a three-point shot by Marcus Gilbert that made it a 45-26 lead at the 13:29 mark. The 19-point lead would be Fairfield's largest of the game, an advantage it would hold on three more occasions.

Nickerson and Needham also reached double figures for the Stags, netting 14 and 13 points respectively. Conley was the top scorer for Saint Peter's, registering nine points with a six rebounds.

Fairfield will return to the hardwood on February 11 against Manhattan College. The game was scheduled for Saturday, February 9 but the weather forecast has forced the postponed until Monday night.
