The #13/14 Fairfield University men's lacrosse team plays the first of two home games this week as Hofstra University visits Alumni Field.  Both teams are coming off of weekend losses, the Stags falling 10-9 at North Carolina and the Pride falling to Princeton, 10-7.  Fairfield is 2-1 on the year, 1-0 at home, while Hofstra is 1-1 and playing away from home for the first time this spring.

Fairfield and Hofstra meet for the fourth time with the Stags earning their first-ever win last season, 10-9, in triple overtime.  The two teams first met in 2002, in Hempstead, a game the Pride won 11-8.  The series resumed in 2011 on Lessing Field, when the eighth ranked Pride defeated the Stags 8-7.

Fairfield continued its move up the national polls on Monday.  The Stags picked up 13 additional points in the USILA Coaches Poll and moved up two spots to 13th.  Fairfield moved up one spot, to 14th, in the Nike/InsideLacrosse Media poll, despite receiving fewer points. The Stags have been ranked in the coaches' poll for 14 consecutive weeks, dating back to February 27 of last year.

Fairfield is 1-0 this season at home and plays four of its next five games on campus.  In five seasons under Andy Copelan the Stags are 18-10 in games played on Alumni Field and Lessing Field.  Last season the Stags were 5-2 at home.

Fairfield has found the back of the net on 26.5 percent (27-102) of its shots this season, while foes are good at just 20.7 percent (25-121).  The Stags have put 53.9 percent (55) of its shots on cage, while the three opponents have put 52.9 percent (64) on net.

Jack Murphy has played all 180 minutes in net for the Stags this season.  He has stopped 39 of the 64 shots opponents have put on cage, for a .609 save percentage.  Murphy also leads the team with 21 ground balls.

Jordan Greenfield has a point in every game played this season and has a team-best nine points.  He has touched net seven times, which is also tied for the team lead, and he scored the game-winner against Bryant in the season opener.

Sam Snow is tied for the team lead with seven goals through three games and is second on the team with eight points.  He netted the game-winning tally against Navy, with the score coming with just seconds remaining.

Fairfield has had success in tight games in the five seasons that Andy Copelan has been at the helm. All three games this spring have been decided by that margin and Copelan coached Stag teams are 26-12 in games decided by two or fewer goals.  Last season Fairfield went 6-0 in games decided by a single-goal and the loss at Carolina snapped an eight-game win streak in games decided by that margin. Under Copelan, Fairfield is 13-8 in games decided by a single tally.

Hofstra is 1-1 this season and is averaging a goal more than its opponents, 10.5-9.5 in those two outings. Torin Varn is the team's leading scorer with all nine of his points coming on goals.  Sam Llinares, eight total points, and Adrian Sorichetti, four points, lead the team with three assists apiece. John Antoniades has taken all but one face-off, going 20-42 this spring, and a team-best 15 ground balls. Chris Selva has played every second in goal for the Pride, making 20 saves against 19 goals allowed.  He comes into Tuesday with a .513 save percentage and a 9.50 GAA. Hofstra opponents have a 68-59 ground ball advantage, as well as a 14-7 edge in caused turnovers. Hofstra received votes in both the coaches and media national polls on Monday.
