Game Notes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team finishes up the home regular-season schedule on Saturday afternoon by hosting the University at Albany at Webster Bank Arena. The game is part of the Ramada BracketBuster series, the Stags' ninth appearance in the event.

Saturday will feature two special events which will be present before the game at halftime. Before the opening tip, the Fairfield University community will honor the Class of 2013 with its annual Senior Day ceremony. Derek Needham, Colin Nickerson, and Desmond Wade will be honored before the game, a class which has posted three straight 20-win seasons and three consecutive postseason appearances. At halftime, the University community will honor the 1973 and 1974 NIT teams, the first Fairfield basketball teams to earn a bid to the National Invitation Tournament.

This game will represent Fairfield's final non-conference game this year, posting an 8-4 mark so far against teams outside the MAAC. The Stags travelled to Wisconsin-Milwaukee for last season's BracketBuster game, coming up four points shy on the road. This will be the first home BracketBuster contest for Fairfield since defeating Austin Peay during the 2010-11 campaign

Fairfield will play for the first time since its thrilling 66-64 win over Iona College at Webster Bank Arena on February 18. Derek Needham netted a three-point shot with 5.5 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Stags to the win. He finished the game with 17 points, 12 of which came from behind the three-point line. Justin Jenkins returned to the lineup after missing seven games with an injury and posted 12 points, his second double-digit performance of the season.

Needham is closing in on 1,000 points for his career - MAAC points that is. The senior has tallied 979 points against MAAC opponents, just 21 points shy of the mark. He tallied his 1,000 career point against all opponents during the 2011 NIT game at Colorado State.

Albany brings a 19-9 overall record and an 8-5 America East mark into today's game including a 75-49 win over Hartford in its last outing. The Great Danes have not played a non-conference game since a 57-50 win over Brown on December 31. The team won 11 of 14 non-conference games this year, playing its last of the season today.

Mike Black ranks first among his teammates with a 14.9 scoring average, joining Jacob Iati (12.6 ppg) as the team's two double-figure scorers. Iati is also the team's top three-point threat, averaging 2.9 three pointers per game. His 77 long-range jumpers are 36 better than Black's runner up total of 41. Sam Rowley has a team-best 6.4 rebounding average and is third with a .530 field goal percentage. The Great Danes close out the season with a home game against New Hampshire and a road contest with Stony Brook.
