FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will continue its home stand on Monday, February 18 when the Stags host Iona College at Webster Bank Arena. The game is started for 7 pm and will be televised on SportsNet New York (SNY).
Fairfield comes into the game with a 16-11 overall record and an 8-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after its 74-52 win against Siena on Thursday night. The Stags received a remarkable performance from senior
Derek Needham, who netted eight three-point field goals on his way to a 31-point performance. The guard just missed his career high for scoring by a point which was set against Niagara. His eight three-point field goals was one shy of the school record set by Mike Evanovich against George Mason n 2010.
Colin Nickerson just missed a double-double versus the Saints with 10 points and nine rebounds, tying his career high for rebounding. Ironically, Nickerson set that career high against Siena during the 2010-11 season by posting the same numbers with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Needham sits a top the team's scoring leaders with a 14.6 scoring average, the only Stags averaging more than 10 points per contest.
Maurice Barrow is near double figures with 9.3 points every forty minutes and places among the MAAC leaders with a .475 field goal percentage.
Amadou Sidibe is the team's top rebounder with 5.8 rebounds per game, and is shooting 55.1 percent from the floor.
The Gaels enter Monday's game with a 15-11 overall record and a 9-6 MAAC mark including a 74-73 double overtime loss at Manhattan. Iona started a three-game road trip with the Manhattan game which also includes this game as well as game at Indiana State on February 23. The Gaels end the season against Loyola and Siena in New Rochelle, where they have won nine of 10 games this season.
Lamont Jones and Sean Armand are the top scoring teammates in the nation, averaging a combined 40.6 points per game. Jones leads the way with a 22.7 scoring average, the only student-athlete in the MAAC averaging better than 20 points per contest. Armand in next in line at 17.9 points every forty minutes, placing third in the MAAC. David Laury is averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per outing.
