The #16/16 Fairfield University men's lacrosse team will make its fourth attempt at opening the 2013 season, this time at Bryant University, Saturday, February 16 at 1 p.m. While it is the opener for the Stags, after last weekend's game at Stony Brook was cancelled, Bryant is 0-1, falling to #10 Colgate, 14-13.
Fairfield has won consecutive opening day games, defeating Stony Brook 13-10 last season and Lafayette 8-4 the season before. Fifth-year head coach Andy Copelan has led the Stags to a 3-1 record in opening day games and open on the road for just the second time in his tenure. All-time the Stags are 12-8 in the first game of the season, with a 4-4 record when that opening game is on the road.
The Stags are playing Bryant for the fourth time and lead the series 2-1. Fairfield won a thrilling 9-8 double-overtime game on Alumni Field last season as Sam Snow netted the game-winner 2:22 into the period. Eric Warden paced the Stags offense in the win, with a hat trick and an assist.
