Box Score

The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Monmouth University in the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Game. The Stags conclude the season at 12-7-2, while the Hawks improve to 17-1-2 on the season.

The two teams played evenly throughout the contest, with the Hawks taking a 16-15 edge in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Both teams had chances in the first-half, but couldn't finish and the game went to intermission tied 0-0.

Monmouth took advantage 90 seconds into the second-half when a long ball was played into the box and Alexis McTamney cleaned up the ball and put it into the net after a collision of Fairfield players. McTamney scored again in the 68th minute, deflecting a long free kick into the goal.

Kathleen Early made six saves in net for the Stags, the same number made by Monmouth's Ashley Lewis.

Fairfield had three players named to the All-Tournament Team, led by graduate student Nikki Stanton (North Bend, Wash.), who earned the honor for the second time in as many seasons. Megan O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) and Ashley Small (Melville, N.Y.) were also named to the All-Tournament Team

The Stags 12 victories are the most since the 2008 team earned 15 victories. The 2013 team also completed the program's first unbeaten home campaign, going 7-0-1 on Lessing Field.
