Shealyn Testa and junior
Felicitas Heinen had two goals apiece.
The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes until Testa netted the first two goals of the game within seven minutes. The first goal was scored from a straight on shot at 23:26. The second goal was scored at 30:10, off a penalty corner assisted by
Christy Starsinic and Heinen. The goals gave the Stags a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The action picked up in the second half when senior
Hillary Fitts scored a goal off a penalty corner, giving the Stags a 3-0 lead at 43:22. The goal was assisted by fellow senior
Nikki McLucas. About three minutes later, Heinen netted her first goal of the game by shooting high off a penalty corner assisted by
Emily Leo and
Valerie Buurma.
At 52:06, Emily Arciero put Brown on the board when she scored off a penalty corner, assisted by Katarina Angus. Fairfield answered with a goal by
Kaitlyn Taddeo at 54:43. Taddeo tapped the ball in the net off a pass from
Julie de Paeuw, giving the Stags a 5-1 lead. The last goal of the game was scored by Heinen off a penalty corner assisted by Leo and Buurma. The final score of the game was 6-1.
Goalkeeper
Caitlin Bennett faced four shots on the day, saving three while Brown's Shannon McSweeney tallied eight saves. The Stags out-shot the Bears 23-8 and had an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Fairfield (11-6) will extend the season at the America East tournament for the second straight year. The No. 4 Stags will face No. 1 New Hampshire in the semifinals on Thursday, November 7 at 2pm.
