FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield fans have every right to be excited about the month of February. It is the month that the Stags will play nearly every game at Webster Bank Arena, beginning with Friday, February 1 when the team hosts Rider University for a key Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game. The game will be broadcasted live on SNY beginning at 7 pm.

At this time of year, every game is key as teams jockey for position in the conference standings. This game is no different as the Stags will try and make up ground in the standings against Rider University, which comes into the game with an 11-11 overall record and a 6-4 MAAC mark. Fairfield, which stands at 12-10 and 4-6, defeated the Broncs in early December on Rider's home floor.

Fairfield has won its last two games, defeating Marist College at home on January 24 and Saint Peter's University on January 27 on the road. Several Stags stepped up to lead the program to wins, namely Derek Needham, Desmond Wade, and Amadou Sidibe.

Needham tallied a team-high 19 points against Saint Peter's, finishing up a four-game run in which he averaged 19 points per game. Wade sparked the Stags with his first double-double with the program, tallying 12 points and securing a team-best 10 rebounds against the Peacocks. Sidibe captured his first MAAC Rookie of the Week after helping the Stags post a 2-1 week, averaging nine points and nine rebounds per game.

The Stags will head to Siena College after the Rider game before returning to Webster Bank Arena for five straight home games that begins on February 7 against Saint Peter's. With the team playing 15 of its first 19 games away from campus, the run of February home games will be a welcome change for the road-weary Stags.

The Broncs look to halt a two-game skid that included losses to Canisius and Manhattan at home last weekend. In its last game, Rider dropped a 62-51 decision to Manhattan despite getting 18 points from Jonathon Thompson. Anthony Myles also hit double figures with 10 points.

The fact that these two student-athletes led the team in scoring on Sunday should be no surprise. Myles is the team's top scorer for the season, netting 12.1 points per game. Thompson is next in line with an 11.0 scoring average. Daniel Stewart is also scoring in double figures at 10.7 points every forty minutes. Stewart leads the team in several categories including rebounding (6.7 per game) and field goal percentage (.494).
