FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will host Marist College on Thursday night at Webster Bank Arena. Fans can watch the 7 pm game online on ESPN 3.
Fairfield will play its second straight home game, falling to Loyola University by a 65-60 count last Monday night. Derek Needham recorded his second-straight 20-point performance, netting a game-high 23 points for the Stags. Amadou Sidibe registered his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Both of those totals tied his career highs.
Derek Needham moved up to the number three position on Fairfield's all-time scoring list with his 23-point performance. He currently has 1,654 points which 262 points behind Joe DeSantis' total of 1,916 points. Needham enters tonight's game with 496 career assists, needing four more to become the fifth student-athlete in school history to reach 500 career assists. The senior could move into third place relatively soon, needing 27 to surpass A.J. Wynder (522 assists) and 31 to eclipse Jon Han (530 assists) who currently stand in fourth and third on Fairfield's all-time assist list.
Marist looks to build on its 5-14 overall record and 2-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) mark. The team halted an eight-game losing streak with a 59-48 win against Saint Peter's at home last Saturday. Chavaughn Lewis paced the Red Foxes with 19 points, the seventh time that the sophomore has been the team's top scorer. Lewis is one of two Marist student-athletes averaging 14 points per game, joining Devin Price for the team lead with a 14.6 scoring average. Price is also the team leader with 36 three-pointers, while Lewis is the team's top defensive player with 36 steals. Adam Kemp is the team's top rebounder, averaging 8.1 per game.
