BALTIMORE, Md. – Josip Mikulic tallied a personal-best 16 points while Keith Matthews added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Fairfield University men's basketball team fell to Loyola University in overtime, 63-58.

The Stags offense did not click in the opening minutes, scoring a single point off a Keith Matthews' free throw in the four minutes of the game. Loyola took advantage of the cold start and built a 6-1 lead, and carried that advantage for the opening 12 minutes. The Greyhounds raised that deficit to six points at 13-7 with 9:31 remaining.

Fairfield used a 6-0 run that would tie the game at 13-13 with 8:03 on the clock, the tying points coming off a layup by Matthews. After a free throw from Jordan Latham, Fairfield regained the lead courtesy of a pair of free throws from Matthews that made it 15-14 with 7:33 remaining.

The two teams would be tied for the last time in the half at 16-16. Mikulic broke the deadlock with a three-point shot which pushed the Stags in front at 19-16. The lead doubled on the next possession following another Mikulic three pointer which made the score 22-16 with 5:35 remaining.

The freshman would go on to score three more field goals from behind the arc, finishing the half with 14 points which surpassed his previous career high of 13 points at Virginia. The six-point lead would remain intact with Fairfield heading into the locker room ahead at 33-27.

Fairfield never trailed in the second half and still held its six-point halftime lead after Mikulic's layup with 4:47 left made it a 47-41 game. The Stags would not score the rest of the way as Dylon Cormier tied the game at 47-47 with 2:06 remaining in the second half.

Loyola grabbed its first lead since the first half on a jumper from Jordan Latham on the team's first possession of overtime. Fairfield tied the game on Maurice Barrow's basket at the 3:19 mark, but Cormier followed with another basket to provide Loyola the lead for good at 51-49. The Greyhounds led by as many as five points in the overtime period, including the final score.

Fairfield will have a quick turnaround, playing next on Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena. The Stags will host Niagara University at 1 pm, the second meeting between the two teams in a week.
