FAIRFIELD, Conn.–
The Fairfield University volleyball team won its fourth-straight by edging the University of Central Florida 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 13-25, 15-13) this morning at the Sacred Heart Hampton Inn Invitational.
 
Junior Rachel Romansky notched her fourth double-double of the season finishing with 32 assists and a season-high 18 digs while posting seven kills on .462 hitting to tie a season high. Senior Brianna Dixion posted a season-high 15 kills and three total blocks. Freshman Nicole Marzik finished with seven kills and fivedigs.
 
Sophomore Camille Coffey tallied 15 digs and seven kills. Senior Kara Reis added 18 digs and a career-high six assists while Carsen Mata had 12 digs.
 
Junior Hayley Moyer had a career-high eight total blocks while freshman Maddie FitzPatrick notched four total blocks, two of which were solo. Moyer also had eight kills on .412 hitting.
 
Fairfield set the tone in the first set as a kill by Dixion put the Stags on top 1-0. Fairfield would not trail the rest of the way. The Stags would lead by as much as eight points, 20-18, after a kill by Marzik. The second stanza was a little bit closer with numerous ties and lead changes. With the score knotted at 21-21, a tap by Romansky gave Fairfield the lead. Moyer followed with a kill while Coffey delivered ace for a 24-21 advantage. Moyer and Romansky came together on block to cap off a 4-0 run and give the Stags the victory.
 
The Stags pulled ahead 7-3 to open the third set but the Knights erased the deficit and overtook Fairfield, 8-7, after an error. Central Florida continued its push, moving out to a 19-11 lead to complete a 16-4 run. The Stags cut the gap to four points, 21-17, after block by Moyer and Caitlin Stapleton, but UCF held on for the 25-21 win. The Knights carried the momentum into the fourth set and downed the Stags 25-13 to force a fifth set.
 
Fairfield won the first four points of the deciding set but UCF would come back and tie the score 5-5. With the score tied at 7-7, the Stags went on a 4-0 run to gain some breathing room. The Knights cut it to 13-11 but Dixion put home kill to set-up match point. UCF held off match point twice, moving within 14-13 but Stapleton ended the match with a kill.
 
Stapleton finished with four total blocks and three kills for the Stags. Fairfield out-blocked UCF 12-8.
 
Fairfield (4-5) finishes out tournament play this evening with a 5pm match against cross-town rival Sacred Heart. Fairfield returns home next week to being Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
