Box Score

ANN ARBOR, Mich. –
The No. 23 Fairfield University field hockey team had its five-game winning streak snapped this afternoon, falling to No. 16 University of Michigan on Ocker Field by a 5-0 score. It is the first time this season in which the nationally-ranked Stags (5-3) have been shut out by an opponent this season.

Michigan (5-3) spent much of the first half in the offensive zone, firing off 10 shots. The Wolverines got on the board at 28:31 as Axelle Wouters snuck a shot by goalie Maddy Sposito. Michigan, which did not give up a shot in the first half, took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Wolverines added another goal at 42:06 on a shot by Rachel Mack and struck again four minutes later on as Woulters stuck in a rebound of a Sposito save. Aisling Naughton made it 4-0 at 55:31 while Mack scored her second goal of the day at 68:40.

Sposito made seven saves while Michigan's Hayley Jones made one save, stopping a blast from Felicitas Heinen.

Fairfield returns home to University Field on September 20 to host Holy Cross at 4pm.
