STORRS, Conn. – The Fairfield University volleyball team closed out their stay at the UConn Classic by defeating Dartmouth College, 3-0 (25-16; 25-20; 25-20), for their first victory of the season. Three Stags posted double-digit kills with freshman
Nicole Marzik leading the way with a career-high 13 kills on .455 hitting.
Sophomore
Caitlin Stapleton tallied 12 kills, a .500 attack percentage, and three total blocks. Junior
Hayley Moyer notched a season-high 10 kills on .421 hitting with four digs. Sophomore
Camille Coffey finished with 12 digs and nine kills, just missing her second double-double of the day finishing
Junior
Rachel Romansky had 37 assists and seven digs and earned a spot on the UConn Classic All-Tournament Team for her play in three matches.

Kara Reis had 16 digs while sophomore
Carsen Mata had seven digs and
Stephanie Cruz tallied three digs. Freshman
Maddie FitzPatrick added three total blocks.
The Stags hit a collective .320 for the match while holding the Big Green to a .150 attack percentage. Fairfield out-blocked Dartmouth, 5-3, and had a 52-32 advantage in digs.
The beginning of the first set was close until Marzik came through with a kill to ignite a furious 10-2 run which put the Stags on top 20-9. Fairfield never looked back, taking the set 25-16. The Stags carried the momentum into the second stanza, pulling out to a 17-12 lead on a solo block by Stapleton. Dartmouth later narrowed the gap to 20-18 but Fairfield forged ahead to take the frame 25-20.
Dartmouth (0-3) took an early 10-6 lead in the third set but Fairfield posted a 4-0 run to tie the game. After trading the next several points, Stapleton put the Stags ahead to stay with a kill. Fairfield closed out the match on a 4-0 run in the 25-20 victory.
Fairfield (1-5) will open play at Alumni Hall on September 5 by hosting Quinnipiac University at 7pm. The Stags then head to the Sacred Heart Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational, September 7-8, where they will face Dartmouth, Central Florida, and Sacred Heart.
