FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield field hockey dominated the game against Bucknell University this afternoon but was unable to come out on top and fell to the Bison 2-1 in overtime.
The Stags pressured Bucknell's back half right from the start with a shot by
Lindsey Hatch which was saved by Bison goalkeeper Erica Perrine.
Felicitas Heinen then made her first goal of the season after a penalty corner at the 5:43 mark.
Emily Leo took the corner and passed to
Molly Caffrey who set it up for Heinen. The Stags led the first half until the 28th minute when Tayler Siegrist was given a penalty stroke and put it past goalkeeper
Maddy Sposito to tie the game.
Fairfield controlled the second half, not allowing the Bison to take one shot the entire period. The Stags had their opportunities to score and take the lead with four shots in the first five minutes of the half. But Bucknell University's defense was a wall in front of the net. The score held for the second half and the two teams headed to overtime.
It didn't take long for the Bison to finish the game. They started with the ball and went straight to the net. Rachel Misko took the first shot one minute into the period. Misko's shot was blocked but Kiersten Sydnor was there to follow up and finish the game.
Fairfield outshot their opponents today fifteen to seven but came up short. The Stags move to 0-2 on the season and will next take University Field on Friday at 4:30pm against the Yale Bulldogs.
