Fairfield University had 146 of its student-athletes named to the 2011-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic Honor Roll, announced this afternoon by the league office. The Stags honorees represent the 18 Stag Division I programs that compete in the MAAC, and ranks fourth amongst full conference members.
To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, an athlete must hold a grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members of the MAAC with athletes represented in all 24 sports that the conference sponsors.
Academic honors have been plentiful this spring for the Stags, with three programs – men's cross country, women's cross country and men's golf – earning APR Recognition Awards from the NCAA. In addition, nearly 60 percent of Fairfield student-athletes achieved at least a 3.0 GPA during the Spring 2012 semester. In all, 242 student-athletes earned spots in the Athletic Department 3.0 Club while 117 of those student-athletes were named to the University's Dean's List.
Fairfield captured the MAAC Commissioner's Cup for overall athletic excellence this season as well, winning the award for the second time in four years. The Stags accrued 135.50 points to capture the overall crown, on the strength of MAAC Championships in men's soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis. Fairfield also captured the cup on the men's side, with 62.50 points and finished second in the women's chase with 73 points.
