JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Fairfield University softball team swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader from Saint Peter's College, using three home runs in the first game and reaching a double-digit run total in the second contests.
In the opening game, Fairfield used the long ball to post a 6-0 win over the Peahens. The two teams traded opportunities through the first three innings, but neither team could break through. In the fourth inning,
Lauren Liseth led off the inning with a solo home run to provide a 1-0 lead. One inning later,
Brianna Levick ripped a home run to left center field for a 2-0 Stags advantage. The score went to 3-0 after the Stags loaded the bases with a a single, an error, and a bunt single.
Nikki Osofsky brought the run home with a ground out.
The Stags put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh inning as
Rae Ball sent home all the runs with her home run to left field. Pitcher
Rebecca Trott earned the win by striking out 12 hitters and scattering two hits to earn the complete game.
Fairfield used two big innings to coast to a 14-1 win over Saint Peter's in the second outing. The Stags tallied six runs in the third inning and tacked on seven runs in the fifth inning. Ball earned the win by tossing all five innings, striking out seven and allowing just four hits.
In the second inning, Ball led off with a double and went to third on
Kimi Kurata's single.
Tiffany Lawson drove home the game's first run with a single. The Stags would load the bases with two outs before
Sammy Ruffolo singled home two runs for a 3-0 lead. Liseth ended the scoring with another home run, chasing three runs home for a 6-0 lead.

Liseth started another rally when she led off the fourth inning with a walk. She would come home a few batters later as Kurata stroked a base hit down the right field line. The day came to an end with seven Fairfield runs in the fifth inning.
Alli Wigand and
Kristen Filicia each had an RBI single in the inning, the only two RBI in the seven-run rally. Two Saint Peter's errors set up four unearned runs for Fairfield.
The Stags are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Sunday against Boston University. The first pitch is set for 1 pm.
